Glad he is recovering.  You will really enjoy the eggs they are full of vitamins and low in cholesterol.

Reintroducing can be quite difficult.  If the three girls are responsible for his injuries it might not be a good idea to put him back with them.

With quail it is best to relocate them when introducing or reintroducing.  This way none of them will fight for their territory and they all think that they are in the others cage.  This should in theory reduce fighting but quail are renowned for attacking each other.  This could be the reason he was attacked by the females if the boy just put him in their cage.

Hope that everything goes well.   :)

When dealing with any injuries including the eye salt water is an excellent way of keeping it clean. Do not make the solution too strong though as this can then interfere with the natural healing process. You will find that most vets will use salt water - saline solution - to clean and keep clean injuries.

The male quail is usually slightly smaller than the female - not that you had anything to compare against!

Good luck and well done for taking him on. It is bad that the vets did not advise you on dealing with his wounds - there is very little difference in dealing with wounds be they human, animal or feathered!! Basic wound cleaning is the same. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

thanks guys.

he's much better and darting around the box more. can see his ear holes now which were previously covered over with scabs. new feathers seem to be poking through near the base of the neck and as the scab recedes the quills are coming coming through further up the skull.

i'm pretty sure now that he will remain blind in the left eye as it is still clouded over. will see how he goes over the next few days.
