Non flowering cherry
« on: April 18, 2012, 12:55 »
Hi all, planted a morrello type cherry 3 winters ago it's growing very well but no blossom, I bought a cheapie form Aldi this winter, planted it next to it and it has a few flowers on it, question is it a basket case or is their a reason for it's non flowering.

Could be several reasons why no flowers. Either it's a standard variety, which won't flower until almost mature at about 5 years or more of age, or early frosts killed flower buds before they could form. Or, simply being a morello type, rather than an actual morello, it flowers when ready at another time.
