Potatoes What To Do?
« on: April 17, 2012, 18:42 »
Evening All  ;)

Right just finally getting around to putting things in the ground and it occurred to me I really have no idea what I am doing with spuds, I have Albert Bartlett Roosters chitting on the kitchen window sill and also some desiree bought from Wilkinsons, I believe both of these are maincrop. My veg beds at the moment are tiny 2 that measure 2.3 metres by 1.6 metres, there will be another 2 slightly bigger over the coming weeks so I do not really want to plant spuds in these as they will take up most of the room so I have some of those bags pod thingy me jigs that you use on patios etc I was going to plant 4 of these up with the desiree and then put the bartlett in some spare ground I have in the front garden.

I have no earlies or second earlies though and I would like some so any suggestions anyone?

As usual any help appreciated

THanks in advance :)

Lady Christl, lovely flavoured and versatile - salad, boil, roast, mash, chip, bake - second early potato. :) If you can get hold of any at this late-ish (for purchase) stage.

I'll second Lady Christl-i thought they were a 1st early though?
Did Rocket last year and they flew-were up in a week and  ready in 7 weeks, but were very bland so i wont recommend them.

No, since I planted mine 2 1/2 weeks ago the weather has been so cold that they probably will not grow much quicker than if they'd been planted later - I'd still suggest you get yours in ASAP though (have you had a look in your local garden centres?)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Maybe they would be better in these bag, pod thingy me jigs as these are literally ready to go mmmmmmm

I am guilty of not really using local garden centres apart from 1 and I only use that on the odd time as it is hugely expensive, on the other hand though I have not tried any of the other garden centres to compare, I do not even know if there are any, there must be surely I will ask Google and see however that may be something for next week or the week after as my lovely children are still off school until Friday and the thought if dragging them round a garden centre is......well...... lets just say I would rather gouge out my own eyes :) So for this week I am limited to the tinternet or shops in town, wilkos, homebase etc etc

International Kidney has had very mixed results on here - people expect it to taste like Jersey Royals and they don't.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

So although they are called INternational Kidney when they are grown on Jersey they become Jersey Royals, I  have learnt something new today :) Think I will give them a go and call them Pembrokeshire Royals do you think anyone will buy them :) Either way they cannot taste any worst than the rubbish I have been buying from Morrisons and Tesco, even the so called finest range taste of absolutely nothing whatsoever!

Do they need chitting?

Any seed spuds you can get hold of now, I'd just shove straight in.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
