Tree Lilies - cutting back?
« on: April 10, 2012, 14:07 »
I received some tree lilly bulbs in February and have had them in pots in the greenhouse since. They are growing and following the instructions I believe I can plant them out now. This may be a stupid question but the instructions say to cut them back to a 1inch stump when all folliage etc has died. As these (over a 3yr period) are supposed to grow to around 8ft, does this mean that the bulb grows bigger, (once cut) and therefore produces taller plants each year? Or do I just leave them to grow and not cut them back at all?

I may be completely wrong here... with other bulbs you leave the foliage etc to die back and this makes the bulb bigger? I have tree lilies and the stalk/foliage just dies back... maybe I should have been cutting it - never seen the point though. Now that's two of us confused!  ???
