New girls
« on: April 02, 2012, 09:10 »
Hi, as mr fox came last Tuesday & caused havoc we lost cotton tail yesterday think she may have been a bit stressed out I found her dead on the nest, so we are down 3 girls I would like to replace them with 3-4 more is it ok to mix with different flocks (breeders)  as I have been told they may well fight, I was thinking of point to lay so they be a bit younger than the girls that are left.

News on rockie is he is getting better

Glad Rockie is on the mend  :).
The new girls should be kept separate for a couple of weeks - ideally in full view and slowly moved closer. This is to protect your existing flock from any illnesses that the new ones may have (but not necessarily showing). There will be fighting and this can take several weeks to sort out whilst the pecking order is sorted - after all how would you like it if another family moved into your house uninvited?
Staffies are softer than you think.
