Ill girl now on Baytril
« on: March 29, 2012, 16:46 »
Hi just got back from the vets (wow the prices have increased)morella has been in the wars 2 days ago another hen cut Morellas vent and removed feathers! She was very traumatised as I expect the other hen harrassed her for most of the day, so cleaned her up applied anti-bac wound powder and anti-pec spray and seperated the hen which did the damage, Morella perked up that evening and was fine the next day ,her egg however had blood on it so she had split again, applied more of powder etc, she got up fine this morning out at 5.30am! When I got home she looked awful again, but this time she had yellow slimey gunk coming out of her, so straight to the vets, thought she had a broken egg, vet couldn't find anything inside her, she was practically asleep on the table, she was given Baytril and anti-inflamitry injections.
What i would like to ask is does anyone know what the gunky stuff could be?Is it an infection?
Also I know there is an egg withdrawal period but it doesn't say how long on the bottle?
Any ideas appreciated thankyou

could it have been a broken egg?
Staffies are softer than you think.

she might be more relaxed at home, so anything inside will find it easier to come out. Keep a close eye on her and hopefully she doesn't get a serious infection. The Baytril will help.

I have never used Baytril but have heard anything from 2 weeks to a lifetime for withdrawal, but 3 weeks should be ok  :)
