Daft question about slugs
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:27 »
So as we know slugs hide away under stuff, flagstones tarps in fact anything to keep them out of the sun and away from prying eyes. Seemingly though they also hide underground apparently the little black ones love to hide this way. So why in all my efforts at digging have I only unearthed worms , or even 1/2 a worm, centipedes, wireworms, beetles, leather jackets and so on yet I have never dug up a hiding slug,or even better 1/2 a slug it's not like they can scurry away quickly? Is it possible to dig up a slug?

When I dugged over my bed last time I found plenty of small slugs maybe 1-2cm long.
After digging I placed some beer traps, now there gone  8)

i've only saw small ones about 1cm. they get covered in all the fine soil and you can't see them very easily. if one gets rubbed a bit then you might noticed the shiny slime.

I really really really should not say this but so far this year I have not seen that many here, they seem to have not fully arrived in Pembrokeshire yet which is unusual there are usually millions of the little bu!!ers :)

Oh well I am sure they will return with vengeance as soon as I plant my lettuce out or the hostas start to come up they love a hosta or 3!
