4 week old tomato plant question
« on: March 15, 2012, 13:58 »
These plants have already been potted up once and seem to be growing ok, they will be 4 weeks old on Saturday.  As the stems have grown a little should I add some more compost around the stems again or just leave it now until they are ready to be put into grow bags and larger pots?

Let them grow until you can see roots at the bottom of the module, before potting on  ;)

No the first potting on is always done as soon as they are big enough to handle, but after that the roots just showing is the rule for potting anything on.

They should be fine in the modules for a while yet, they do look nice and strong  :)

I do put a bit of compost round mine, to hold them up a bit  :)

it's very accommodating of tomatoes to allow this soil around their stem if we've let them get leggy. I sometimes wonder which other plants would allow you this intrusion without rotting off?
