Wing Feather Clipping
« on: March 07, 2012, 14:14 »
Hi Everyone,

I'm considering clipping the feathers of my ladies, as they are beginning to get more curious about my neighbours garden.

So, my next Question is: Is clipping the feathers on one wing effective? Has anyone else had good results?

Thanks  :)

It does work so long as you only do one wing.  Although mine then decided to use the top of their coop as a jump board!  ::)

The wing clipping might not work in that case because obviously they've got a shorter height to cover if they are using a platform to escape.  Our run is so high now you'd think it was Fort Knox.  Good luck though.

In my experience it works most of the time but there is always the odd one that manages anyway. Once the feathers grow back I have not found it necessary to do again. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

Yes but only do 1 wing and do not cut it to short or it will hurt the chook cut it about half way.
