Can you grow mint from seed ? Ours are looking really tired and old ( a bit like me ) I would like to replace it but how do you control it stopping it from spreading.

Some mints you can grow from seed some are sterile and you'd need to buy plants. Make sure it is planted in a sturdy container otherwise it WILL go everywhere!

Grow it in a bucket or large plant pot sunk in the ground leaving an inch or two of rim above ground.  You can split the old plant up and replant a bit in some fresh compost and it will be ok.  It's tough as old boots.

Can you grow mint from seed ?

I bought some garden mint seed (you get 1000s of seeds in a packet) and they germinated and grew quite quickly and was harvesting from late summer onwards.

I agree grow it in a sturdy pot sunk into the ground , as i had big problems with mint when i took on my second plot it was every where took alot of digging to remove all roots
but did smell nice whilst doing it
