Hi,

I hope you can give me some advice, I found your site through google and wondered if you could give me some advice.
We have a small flock of 9 birds and one of the (miniature buff Sussex) is a bit under the weather.
She has been off her food for a while now and she if very 'grey' around the gills. She still is drinking and tries to keep with the flock but sometimes she will go off and be on her own and just stand/ crouch with her head low.
I have checked to see if she has a solid crop , but there is nothing there and today I have noticed a bit of blood in her mutes.
Im not too sure what to try and often when you take a chook to the vet they don't really know and offer a 'lead injection, cant possibly do that to my Janet !!! lol
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated.

blood in the stools( mutes ) if that what mutes they are ....is a bad sign . she may have a crushed egg in her insides ask vet to check and extract very carefully this can lead to perotinitus and death so take care .. broad spectrum for poultry antibiotics should be given as a precaution . worm and then make sure that all drinkers have some apple cider vinegar in them 1/2 cup to a gallon /// american cup measurement not drinking cup continue with cider vinegar for all time. i know the system is different over in the states so you may have to reconsider culling it .hope that helps

I'll agree with all Munty's sugestions and add coccidia to the list. This can be a cause of blood in the faeces.

Hi,

I worm every 4-6 weeks, powder for red mite.
But unfortunately today she passed away after a trip to the vet, the vet said it wasn't mite or worms , not too sure what it was, perhaps a broken egg, but anyway she has now gone to chicken heaven, god bless
