Keeping on the subject of creosote.  Can I put 6 week old chicks in a shed that has been recently creosoted?  (Inside and out!)

If not, what can I do to the shed, as I need the extra room

Thanks in advance

Hello grannieannie, i would'nt advise putting chicks so young in a newly creosoted shed, it would need the door leaving open for at least a week i'd say, but take it from me, you'll never suffer with red mite again :)

Thanks Mercury.  the shed was done about a week ago, but it stills smells quite strong.  The chicks need to be somewhere else over the weekend as they are getting so big now and hubby hasn't finished the extension to the big henhouse yet.

the door is continuously open, so what if I wash it out with Jeyes?  then leave it to dry for a few days?  Jeyes smells better than creosote!!!!  Hubby also said he could line the bottom half out with hardboard like he's done the brooders so the chicks don't peck at the walls

sorry i didnt get to hear about the creosote earlier nana the birds wont be able to go back in till the smell has completly gone as the vapours are heavy and lay on the floot of the hut if the doors are closed .please  everybody never use creosote inside a chicken coop or any animal holding area .wet it burns birds feather s and skin and can poison them if ingested , if you use anything that isnt water based you run the risk of gassing them this includes cuprinol wood treatment ,nanna id  leave the chicks in a ring coop for at least another week ,leave all doors open on the coop in the mean time ,then close the coop over night open in the morning smell the air at the floor level if you dont get a strong smeil then the birds will be ok,, hope that ytou get sorted quick x :)
