[Living in Hope]

I grew up in the Lakes with 2 sorts of gooseberries in the garden, one the standard green goosegog, the other a yellow dessert type that was so sweet you could eat it off the bush. They were larger berries than the green one. I'd like to get one, but have no idea what variety it was, any suggestions?

I would not know what it was, but this is what the RHS recommends (any dessert variety will be sweet, mind):

"Yellow fruit

‘Leveller’ AGM: A large, yellow dessert gooseberry with one of the best flavours of any cultivar. A bit of a shy cropper except on good, fertile soils. It has good disease resistance.

‘Yellow Champagne’: A classic, yellow culinary gooseberry that is quite hard to come by. Other good yellow gooseberry cultivars to try include ‘Bedford Yellow’ and ‘Early Sulphur’."

There is a new one called yellow hinnonmaki, which makes small bush and has excellent flavour (I have one - it is a bit sprawly but worth growing)

I only have boring red ones with even more boring names.
