MINE TOOK A LONG TIME TO LAY, THEY NEED TO GET SETTLED AND SORT OUT THEIR PECKING ORDER, THEY MAY NOT EVEN LAY TILL AFTER THE WINTER NOW, MOST HENS SLOW DOWN WINTER TIME AND SOME STOP COMPLETELY.
THE TWO ON THE FLOOR LOOK VERY SIMILAR TO MY BLACK ROCK AND MY BLACK TAIL BUT IM NO EXPERT ON CHICKEN BREEDS

I see on your profile Ganner you decline to tell us how old you are,  with a phrase such as "Wot no" .  .  .  .  you must be getting on a bit? ! ? !   (Eh Chad)?     Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Nice looking girls!
I'm still very much a novice, but mine looked more mature than these when they first started laying.

I can't tell you what breeds they are, but I do agree that you have a while to go before getting any eggs.  all their faces are small and pale pink - you would expect them to have much bigger combs and wattles and much redder faces before they begin to lay.

"Point of Lay" can mean a wide range of ages, so I agree you might be waiting until spring for your first egg (or at least until the days start getting longer after mid-winter's day).

But once they do start laying you're going to havbe a lot of eggs!  I hope you either have a big family or a plan for getting rid of excess eggs!

You mentioned they have a nice big field to run around in, have you had a good look around it yourself? They may not realise they're supposed to go somewhere special to lay, although as others have said, they may also wait now 'til the warmer weather.

Well from looking at the picture they all lokk like hybrids so they should start laying about the 18 week mark. however in winter or when daylight hours start to diminish then egg production falls. these birds should lay throughout the winter becuase as hybrids that is what tehy are pruposly breed for. however if they hadn't started to lay by a certain point for example august then its too late. they wont start until mid january. for them to lay in the winter the need to have started before then. teh size and colour of the comb and wattles does indicate that the bird is maturing but does not mean that they will start laying eggs. also point of lay is a term that could mean the birds are any age so just becuase the birds are point of lay dosn't mean there young and about to lay.

well my pullets (hatched this year and all pure breeds) are just starting to come into lay, this might be because so far the weather has been remarkedbly mild  ;)
Staffies are softer than you think.
