We have had our plot for two years now, we inherited two redcurrant and one whitecurrant bush which produced a fair amount of currants during the first year with little attention, however this year.....wait for it.........nothing, not a sausage, not a currant even! Not sure what has happened, but i'm considering digging them up and getting rid as we don;t really use the currants anyway - however they are sat nbetweena row of well established raspberry canes and a deep row of well established blackberry plants, so I dont think anything will grow between these due to competition for light & water??? Any suggestions welcome please  ??? ??? ??? ???

You could be right!

Look at the stems and if there are fruiting buds visibel it will be worth keeping them ... if not, move or get rid.

(They are fattish buds not skinny one)

If you don't really want the currants, then give them to someone who does and let the other plants have more space.

My Dad had a blackcurrant bush which produced loads of berries this year.
One day he asked me if they were ready for picking, but they didn't look quite ready so I suggested that he waited another week.
The next week I went out to see the bush and was surprised to see that all of the berries had gone.
He had not picked them so I can only guess that the birds had a feast.
Is that where your berries went, or did the bushes not produce anything at all?

Good point but im sure they didnt produce anything at all, there are a lo of buds on the plants right now but not big enuogh to produce fruit as far as i can determine. Ill ask the other plotholders if they would like them rather than bin them.
