This week our meek and mild goldline Saffy has come into lay and now seems to be taking it out on Talulah the black Cochin who was previously Head Girl. Talulah is not yet in lay but jusging from the red face and comb can't be far off. Can I expect further jostling for position in the future? Goodness only knows what will happen one the Cream and Cotswold Legbars start laying. I really wasn't expecting the Goldline to be top bird though

I always find that those who aren't laying are lower in the pecking order but as soon as they lay they become equals

Yes when they come into lay (or stop laying for that matter) the pecking order can get into a bit of disarray!  When my first pullet started laying, she was mid-way in the pecking order.  Well what a fuss in the coop that day!  Everyone was pecking at everyone and there were beaks and claws flying!  :blink:

In my case everyone was a similar age and all started laying within a few weeks, so there doesn't seem to have been any permanent change in pecking order.  But it certainly created disruption at the time.

Hmm, I've got two hybrids already laying and then a cochin, pekin, CLB and Cotswold legbar still to go. They've also got a bit more growing to do so think there will be ructions. Better have the purple spray at the ready!
