I would love to know the name of the allotment society trying to off load this waterlogged land and give them a call myself and tell them this is really unacceptable as an allotment and shouldn't be given to someone until the drainage problem has been rectified.  >:(

I couldn't agree more with the highlighted part, although don't name and shame on here please.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We are talking about North Norfolk here and I suspect the water table will be really high given the geography, so I think something more is going on here than a simple drainage issue.

I have finally had a LONG chat with the allotment secretary and it has been agreed that the allotment is not worth any rent while it is in its current state! However they would want it used and managed and I want an allotment so we have agreed that I will not have to pay any rent for this year and half rent for the year following that   :D

SOOOO.... How would you advise on clearing large amounts of water?

I will dig a big hole (mini lake) at the lowest point of the ground and get the soil from the hole to higher the rest of the plot, but allow an angle for new rain water to flow into the mini-lake.....in the meantime, fence the lake for health and safty.

consider digging only when there is little/none water at certain time of the year.

might waork and you will have a nature water butt.
Rain at night, sunshine all day long!

As East Anglia has had the dryest year on record, then in a normal year that water is going to be even deeper.........
I`m left handed, what`s your excuse?

The title of this thread still makes me laugh...................Damp problem!!

I'd be handing back the keys and waiting for a usable plot to become available, I think Ice is right that the water table not a lot you can do about it without major work.
