One of my hens, Harriet, occasionally seems to get like a white powder on her ear lobes. I spotted it again this morning, along with what looks like a grey mark on her head.

She has had a bald head since around February / March (she has been to the vet since this on an unrelated matter but he didn't say anything about it) but now in the process of moulting she is now slowly starting to develop feathers on her head again.

I haven't ruled out the possibility that the grey mark could be dirt (she wouldn't sit still enough this morning for me to check properly) but I would like to know if anybody else has encounterd the white powder on the lobes? I am assuming it is a type of fungus and I wondered the best way to treat it.

This sounds like Favus, which is a yeast infection on the comb - a bit like Athletes foot. You can actually use athletes foot cream to treat it. If have a look on the "search" facility I'm sure it will bring up plenty of info and remedies.

Thanks for the info, I searched for favus and found a thread from hillfooter who used Daktarin (athletes foot remedy), I shall give it a go!
