Terror Chickens :-(
« on: October 31, 2011, 17:23 »
Hi, not been round for a while sorry about that.  Hope all the members are well.

I have an issue to discuss, a couple of my hens seem to have an obsession with the neighbours garden.  It is not next to us but in front, our drive runs beside it and has fields to one side.

Can they sue me for damage as the naughty girls seem to like his patio planters.  He is a bit of a trimmed grass type of person.  It's just 2 new girls who won't stay where they are allowed.  We have 2 acres of paddock but they seem to like his little garden :-(

I kept them contained in a run for a while in the hope they would stop next time I let them back to free range with the others, but no.  I ended up selling most of the naughty ones and only kept these 2.

He is a bit of a know it all and I really can't afford a law suit.  Any ideas please thanks

Have you tried clipping one wing of each bird to prevent them flying into his garden. He would have a point, afterall he never wanted chickens - you did so why should he suffer?
Staffies are softer than you think.

i agree with joy clip their wings next year when they have grown back they will be happy to stay put with the others and not roam so much.

ps my neighbours put up a big fence and sent the local councillors round to 'ave a word'.

not a lot they can do as they have cats and they s???t in me veg patch lol

The thing is that chicken disposal is easy as they taste better than cat ! :)

Clip `em or fence them in as none of your stock or pets (including cats) should be allowed to wreck other peoples property that they invest time and money in.

So just to clarify slowef - is there a fence between your property and the neighbour's or is it all open range?  If there is no fence you will need to install one, or keep your chickens contained in a pen.

I'm glad to see you're looking for remedies for this.  As others have said your livestock is your responsibility so really it's something you need to resolve.  Go and have a chat with your neighbour and explain to him that you're actively working on a solution.  By the time a law suit is involved it's already too late!

ooh yes now a good roast is always welcome.

Sorry i was a bit flippant in the last clip. But as mentioned the chicks are your responsibility. chatting to 'good' neighbours helps.
