Just to dispel any myth which seems to be creeping through this thread, Panacur is available in cat and dog strengths and not just for horses. It is sold at my place of work (licensed to sell animal health products).

Thank you Argyllie for confirming that Panacure is available to buy off prescription in pet shops. Had me wondering if I was seeing things when previous posts said it was presc only and only for equine use !!!!  Those pics on the packaging definately looked like doggies and kitty cats to me!
1 fiance, 3 kids, 1 fish, 1 cat, 9 poland bantams, 6 Barbu de Watermael, 2 allotment plots and not enough time!

No need to get uptight danmegal! We are only disscusing things we have heard.  We all have our chickens best interest at heart, and that is why we disscuss things with each other first, so we can learn.  We are not about to go out be iressponsible.  :)

Sorry if I sounded like I was being uptight but obviously this is a subject close to my heart! Only just the other week we had a customer who wanted to buy a product used for worming cattle when we became a bit suspicious (he didn't look like your average farmer) he admitted it was for gheckos and that he had read in a magazine to use it. The medicines you buy from behind the counter at a shop are prescribed, it is the licenced member of staff that prescribes it when they sell it to you. Apologies again if I was a tad dramatic yesterday.

Hey thats ok.  Im a frustrated worm worrier! As you may have read, my experience with a so called poultry vets was expensive and not helpfull.  So when flubenvet was not working back in the summer with some horrid little worms i just wandered if there were any other options.  I will not be trying panacur after the side affects that someone mentioned early on in this disscusion.  However now the weather has turned colder i have not noticed any beasties for a long time. Phew :)
