Anyone experienced in Wyandottes??
« on: October 27, 2011, 10:20 »
Can anyone help? Does anyone who's experienced in Wyandottes know roughly when you can 'almost' successfully sex chicks?? I'm going to see some that are 5 weeks old, and unsexed!! I definately want a pullet, so i'm happy to wait a few more weeks if needed.
Any info is greatly recieved :)

I've got a couple of Gold Laced Wyandottes that I hatched from eggs and couldn't honestly tell them apart until about 11 weeks, when the male wattle and comb (especially the comb) become much more pronounced.

What colour are you getting?

I find dottes really difficult until they get their secondary sex-linked feathers.

Because they have a rosecomb, it is more difficult than with a single comb, you tend to look more for the saddle and hackle feathers (which will be pointy - not rounded - and will look silky)
