Moulting and not eating much.
« on: October 16, 2011, 21:10 »
Hello, i have four hens that are just over a year now.  They are all moulting big time, the pen looks like a feather pillow has burst in there!  They all have new feathers coming through so that encouraging, however since all this started they have really gone of thier food even not enjoying thier afternoon corn treat.  They still like a peck around on the lawn and are eating a few pellets and drinking water.  Also since going off thier food they have all had very watery droppings.  This has been going on now for about a months.  Is this all sounding normal?  As this is my first experience of a moult im a little nervous! I wanted to worm them to rule this out however as they are not tucking into thier food im not sure how im going to get the flubenvet into them, any ideas? Thanks

Hi,

mine are also moulting big time! I found that a small piece of grape doused with flubenvet - if you can ensure they all get a piece - worked well as then I knew they were all getting a dose

Thanks for that, did you do that for the seven days or just put the whole amount on the grape for one dose? Its such a small amont to measure out! but then thinking about it, the moister of the grape prob picks up enough for that days dose, juat need to do it for a few days.  Have your girls gone of their food aswell?

Has anyone used panacur for worming.  Someone recomednded it to me as you can administer one dose direct into the hens mouth.  I have been useing flubenvet and i know that ther are ones on this forum that swear by it but im not so sure.  Where can i get panacur and what dosage do i use?

mine aren't eating much at the moment either (except the hybrids who would eat my arm off if they could!) and i'm contemplating putting some growers in with the layers...they've lost quite a bit of body and have obviously stopped laying so the eggs wouldn't be effected....i don't know about the panacur but i do use flubenvet  - sometimes on grapes or on a bit of banana.

glad to hear its not only my girls who are not eating much.  Could you tell me please a little bit more how you administer the flubenviet on a grape?  Do you do this for the seven days as required and if so how much on the grapes???
