I grew some Mr Fothergills Hawk F1 butternuts this summer and lo and behold they have produce about 6 fruits :).....however instead of being the normal pear shape they are all round and grapefuit shaped :unsure:......all around tennis ball size....not quite what I expected,is this normal?

Almost sounds like you got something else in the packet.

If you didn't, then a lot of people have had some strange results with their veg this year due to the unusual weather.

I have had results like this in the past with butternuts, they have been more round than long.

They still taste the same though but tend to have a slightly larger seed cavity.

I have three fruits on one plant (all tiny  :() and one of them looks a lot like a melon. The other two are normal  :unsure:

Thanks for the replies......After not getting a single BNS last year I suppose even wrong shaped ones are a step forward.....as long as they taste OK I'll be quite happy :tongue2:.

Don't give in to temptation and eat them too soon, as they taste so much better after a few weeks in storage  :D

We still had edible ones from last autumn in July
