hurcules onion sets
« on: October 06, 2011, 09:08 »
My local shop has no Japanese onions left but did have Hercules at £1.99 for 500 g which compares well with internet offers. However I see Thompson and Morgan will not be sending theirs out until the spring. Is it too early to plant Hercules (sets)  or should I look around some other suppliers for the Japanese variety at this time of year?

I doubt Hercules would stand the winter cold  :(
I'd have a look elsewhere for overwintering ones.

Hercules are definitely spring planted ones. I grow them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Sorry I got this wrong.  The variety is Radar not Hurcules but the question is the same.  Can they be planted now!

Radar are Japanese onions. It's another term for over-wintering ones.
