Aminopyralid test failure
« on: September 29, 2011, 09:18 »
Having read many of the posts about contaminated horse manure I set up the test everyone recommends with broad beans. The ones planted with no manure are now about a foot high. The ones planted in a 50/50 mix of compost and manure haven't shown at all.

They should have grown but with cupped leaves?

I think my mistake has been that the HM was fresh and it has killed the bean sprouts?

The HM came from the field next door to my plot and is full of normal looking broad leaf weeds. Hopefully this means that it is clear of aminopyralid?

Am I correct that this test should be carried out with well rotted manure?

Regards, WG  :(

Last year, I had to use very new horse manure in the bean test, and did get it to work though it was slow. Some people will be faced with this problem, possibly reduce the proportion of manure to 25% in this case.
