Stored DESIREE having a green tinge...clues sought?
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:12 »
I went through all the steps as far as i knew, dug them, let them dry/harden a bit, rubbed off the excess soil(did not wash them), put them in proper tied up potato bags and wrapped them in a blanket and put them in the dark part of the garage which has no light intrusion about 4 weeks ago.
All those witha bit of scab or damage we`ve eaten first no problems with them.

As we started to use and peel those stored we found they have greenish tinge under the skin so we are double peeling them??-any clues/ideas as to what`s  afoot here?---thanks in advance-ps. they are firm and solid no outward signs of damage/distress etc!

Did the light get to them before they went into storage?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

hmm, I'm with DD - they must have been green-tinged before you stored them, cos it sounds like you did everything right.
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Sure they had some light whilst they hardened off when dug-all those with a problem were washed and dried outside too then put in the kitchen bin-no problems with them as we worked our way through them and we have only just finished them-hence breaking in to the "stored ones"

If the green is due to light, then when they are in the dark it will actually gradually fade and the potatoed will be fine.

It might not have been that visible before you peeled them due to the colour of the skin.
Wisdom is knowing what to ignore - be comfortable in your own skin.
