winter veg and crop rotation
« on: September 17, 2011, 12:20 »
Hi I am new to the forum and this has been my first season having a share of an allotment.  I have about a third, my growing space is 6m x 3m and 4.5m x 3m.  I have had quite a successful summer season and I am considering growing some winter varieties.

Having planned my crop rotation for next year how do I fit winter veg in?  Do I stick to this years plan or next years?  Thank you for helping.

Helen

Hi Helen,

I would stick to this years plan as you can then prepare and lime the new ground for next years crop.

I think it depends how long your winter crops will be in place. If they will finish before you need the ground for the next crop, stick to this year's position. For crops that will remain for a significant part of next year, go with next year's position.
