Hi Guys,

I have some bueatiful mini miniature bearded silkies, hatched them in incubator now 14 weeks old.

I have only every had unbearded and have noticed the fur/feathers around their eyes are wet on the ends as they seem to touch their eyes. It does not seem to bother them, or cause any irritation at the moment,  the fur/feather is very fine.

Could this cause problems later, should I trim it back? They do have very fluffy heads

I keep bearded Poland Bantams and if you are farmiliar with this breed the hens have large "pom-poms" and the cocks have huge "crowns" of feathers on their heads. I trim the feathers around their eyes if they can not see (with Polands sometimes the head dress is so large the bird can not see at all!) As with all the crested breeds, the feathers can curl under and touch the eyes and can cause irritation and can eventually cause blindness as the eye is irritated so much. I only trim if needed.  Check your Silkies and if their feathers are long, dirty and anywhere near their eyes - cut them!!
 Imagine how irritating it is for us when we have an eyelash in our eyes!! If you're a poor chook with filthy feathers rubbing your eyes all the time think how horrible that would be? Prevention is better than cure in this case. Just take off enough feathers to leave their eyes clear without spoiling the look of their crests. Hope this helps.
