Hi my ex-free range hen Ruby who was over 3 years old died yesterday, she has had a bad heart for a while but up until yesterday she has been ok, maybe a little slower, but definately feisty! She had 1 1/2 years of free ranging with us so she had a good innings, poor Lula who is left on her own looked a bit warey this morning but seems fine now, I will be getting her some new buddies tomorrow, looking forward to how she is with them as she as always been at the bottom of the pecking order, and now it will be her in charge!As she is on her own I will be putting the new ones straight in with her, I know not ideal but she needs some company.

Sorry to hear Ruby has gone, but at least she had a wonderful life with you eating grass and looking at the sky. Lula will be a bit shell shocked for a while but with new girls to boss about I'm sure she'll come around.

Thanks for your replies   I have just arrived back with 3 new girls;a speckledy, pied Suffolk and an amber star! They are adorable, Lula is now strutting around the enclosed run all puffed up and squawking, I shall put them in the coop later when they are sleepy, I think i'll keep them in the run in the morning then let them out to meet Lula and investigate the garden in the afternoon!Fingers crossed they get along.
