NOT an industrial sized compost heap...
« on: August 31, 2011, 18:06 »
I posted this a few days ago...

"After digging four beds at 'Growster's Patch', (new plot), it's clear that although the topsoil is in pretty good heart and digs well, there is no heavy couch grass infestation as previously thought - yet anyway..."

there is no heavy couch grass infestation as previously thought - yet anyway

Pah!

It took one and a half hours to do the fifth bed the same size today...! Why you shriek?

Because there was more couch in the fifth bed than you can shake a stick at - in fact, it would have to be a big stick, more like a young tree, so you could see it over the wheelbarrow full of neat couch grass which had to be carted away to the tip...

Did I say 'carted away'?

Bulldozed away more like...!

So, five down, twenty-nine to go!

Looks good though - very satisfying! And Mrs Growster found two blackcurrant bushes and two spring raspberry plants, all very tired from being under a load of brambles.

They're a prize worth all that b****y couch...

Better luck with the others with the couch

At least you'll have dug most of it out of number five   :D

It's all a bit complicated KC, but we haven't had much time off this year, and as I work for myself, there are precious little moments when we can get out together.

Luckily, Younger Daught gave us a new grand daughter last Thursday, so we need some space to help out there, plus the fact that I can let my two business partners get on with the work for a few days...

I tend to get up pretty early, do my bit, then some more, then, on days like today say s*d it, we're off down to the patch...

It's not usually that simple...;0)

Couch grass collection is a pleasant, balmy interlude amongst the shenanigans of trying to get some building/development done these days, with politicians and banks doing their darndest to crush their dead hands on everything. But you didn't want to know that did you...
