Frost free fridge freezer
« on: August 23, 2011, 11:55 »
My fridge freezer has had it! It likes to freeze things so much that it makes enough ice to push the door open. It is about 9 years old though.
I was thinking of getting a frost free on this time. Are they any better?

if it's producing loads of ice like that, it means that the door isn't sealing properly anymore, so it is overcompensating for the relatively warm air seeping into it. This is usually the problem = then it makes it worse by producing enough ice to open the door even more, letting even more warm air in, so producing more ice. etc etc etc

So your real problem is the poor seal!!!
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

They certainly are.  Ours went the same way, lifting the lid.   We 'won' an upright freezer and a fridge freezer from "Haley's C**** Auction site.  Items returned just because they had a slight dink or scratch you could hardly see and so much cheaper.     Cheers,    Tony.

My next-door neighbour has had her frost-free fridge-freezer repaired 4 times this year (it's only about 2 years old but she did have the foresight to take out an extended warranty!)

There is so much more to go wrong compared to the manual defrost designs.  My LEC fridge-freezer is 11 years old now, gets defrosted nearer once than twice a year and has never gone wrong, although of course I might regret saying that now!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

We have 2 frost free fridges and a frost free freezer, It is so much easier, and none have gone wrong yet.
That is bound to be bad luck now isn't it

Well the thought of not dealing with ice anymore won over and I've ordered a frost free one but it has a five year guarantee.
