can i use the compost i from my chilli plants?
« on: September 24, 2007, 10:59 »
HI, im new to the forum and to the vegetable gardening world,

i have just bought my first house and have been making space for some vegetables next year.

I have grown chillis (about 30 varieties) and other veg like lettuce, raddish, spring onion, courgette etc in my greenhouse for a few years now.

anwyay my question is can i use the soil that i grew my chillis in this year on my new veg patch or do i risk spreading disease etc?

also what is the best thing to do with rhubarb plants over winter as there are a few in the garden and i want to keep them

any advice on any aspect of veg gardening would be appreciated as i have just started planning the size and layout of the garden. I will still be growing chillis as we also have a green house and cold frame.

cheers
Moggy

use the compost by all means oin the garden . or search compost and you will find a few other discussions about it . just leave the rhubarb plants be and they will come back next year , if you wish to move any  dig under them  and lift carefully  take to new spot with hole same depth  put some manure /new compost in and then replant  firm down soil around the plants by walking on it . welcome to the gang  :D
still alive /............

Welcome to the forum moggy.  Where is "Up North" please since future advice might depend on knowing your approx location.

Chilli compost - I don't see why it can't be spread on the garden.  See this thread : http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=8276

cheers guys, ive changed my location for you :D

ill try and take some pics and post my plans to see what you all think.

Im tempted to leave the rhubarb where it is as im not sure how long its been there and i dont want to risk damaging it but it all depends on how i can plan round it.

cheers
