fence plants
« on: August 24, 2011, 18:35 »
I wonder if anyone can help me.  I would like some plants in my garden.  I have a rather small garden, half of which is patio and the other half is shingle.  We are trying to maximise space as well as protect the plants from my animals - I have a large male dog which would do what large male dogs do , cats that would lay on and hens that would peck ground level plants!  Tho I do have a couple of chicken-wire-covered tubs with grass in!

We are having hanging baskets on the back of the house, and I have envisioned hanging baskets on the back fence, but now we are at the point to do this I have realised we only have one fence post which has my washing line on (which can't go anywhere else)! The other is just inside next doors garden, which means a basket would have to go on the actual fence, which is Harris fencing and probably wouldn't be strong enough.

Sorry, that was a really long-winded way of getting to my question of does anyone have any idea how I can attach plants to my fence?  ???
The glass is neither half empty or half full - it is simply the incorrect size! Find a new glass!

Are you trying to hide the fence or just get some planting space?

Why not just put a fence post up smack bang in the middle of the garden and make a feature of it ? You'll have 4 sides to hang things off, leave it as long as possible and you'll have plenty of vertical garden.

We only put the fence up last year, so just want some planting space, we can't use the side fences as one side belongs to our neighbour and isn't very well built, and, there's just a 3ft tall chain link one, which we will replace eventually.
I guess we could put some sort of post up - I like the idea of vertical gardening, and being unusual would suit me perfectly!
