Really big poo?
« on: August 15, 2011, 13:45 »
One of my 3 girls is doing really big poo's.  I'm not sure which one as of yet, it just seems to be the odd one popping up around the garden.  They are about the size of a tangerine and look pretty healthy!  What does this mean?  My coral nick Betty lays the biggest eggs by far, maybe she's the culprit.

Hens will normally do an "extra large" poo when they first come out of the coop on a morning (despite being able to poo overnight).  Similar to a broody poo, but not quite so large... and they stnk!

Maybe you've got a greedy hen who's eating more than the others, hence the bigger poos.

It never ceases to amaze me the hours we spend on here discussing chicken poo and I've spent many an afternoon with a bit of stick poking around in any interesting/suspect ones that I see!

I really, really need to get out more......

I agree, Helenaj.  I have never taken this much interest in poo in my life.  ::)

I've found that since my pullets have reached laying age their poos are changing too.  They seem to eat more and poo more, and there is quite a variation in the poos depending on the time of day and the stage of their laying cycle.

As with so many things, when a pullet reached POL her whole system seems to go through a bit of an upheaval.  Hopefully things will settle down soon for mine - I'm sick of the giant poos on my lawn!  :tongue2:

Is it true that garlic granules in the water minimises  the odour of poo?

i once came home to find an enormous poo in the corner of the coop. originally thought that the dog might have decided to add to the chick poop stink. on closer inspection it was captain jack's (r.i.p) contribution!

no helenaj i don't think you need  to get out more - you're just dedicated to your flock :)
