Exploding pumpkin!
« on: August 14, 2011, 19:24 »
Today on the plot went to check on my pumpkin plant and found one of the fruits has almost exploded :(.......well not quite, but it is covered in huge deep cracks.
The plant is Atlantic giant,I've restricted it to two fruits, which are both now football sized. The obvious answer is uneven watering, but this is not the case...as I give the plant at least two cans of water a day....twice a day when the weather is dry and warm. I feed it every other day with a fairly weak phostrogen solution. The other fruit is not affected, has anyone else experienced this?....should I cut this fruit off?...or will it 'mend' and carry on growing?
Advise appreciated as it's my only plant and if I'm down to one fruit there's not much room for any more disasters
