Holes in sprouts
« on: August 02, 2011, 16:38 »
My sprout leaves have suddenly become holy. They are under netting and no signs of bugs or caterpillars (although the cabbage whites are pretty persistant). Does anyone know what may have caused this and how I can stop it?

Possibly slugs or snails.

Are there any silvery trails?

With mine it's sparrows.  They perch on the netting frame and peck away all day!

If it's lot of tiny holes it could be flea beetle, which is always worse in dry weather, a good downpour or a soaking with the hose usually gets rid of most of them.

Thanks
Not seen any silvery trails around my sprouts and there are plenty of slug pellets around them so dont think its slugs/snails. Also, not many birds come into my garden because of the 3 cats next door. There are lots and lots of tiny holes in the leaves so flea beetles could be the culprit. Had a bit of a downpour yesterday so will keep my eyes peeled over the next few days. If more appear, then a quick blast withe hose may be in order
