Butternut Squash - again
« Reply #15 on: September 24, 2007, 16:43 »
Don't know, I'm in the same position, I have one tiny squash and lots of flowers. now I'm worried about the threat of frost. If I cover it with fleece the polinating insects won't get in. My neighbour said try to hand polinate but most of the flowers were closed. I've given them a semi enclosed shelter of glass panes and I've crossed my fingers!

I'm no squash expert but I'd reckon that any squash fertilised now has no chance of growing big enough for use.  Frost protection takes priority.

Mine too Sadgit, about 8 in total - think the secret must be to forget about them for a week and not keep looking at them every day like I did when first planted out.

Must be the shy type.

Anyway still keeping my fingers crossed for roasted butternut before the frosts.
Oops a daisy!
