asparagus?

asparagus?

hi all,i have a small asparagus bed with 8 crowns .they are 1 year old crowns grown from seed.they are all growing ok and are about 15 inches tall with  bushy fronds,but there's 2 fronds that are twice the length of the others that are not bushy and are lying flat across the floor is this normal or should i cut these ones now or still leave till autumn to cut back can anyone give me some advice.thanks :mellow:

Sounds like they have just blown over when wet.

Push them up a bit and all should be well  :)

ive tried but they wont stay up.should i tie them to the others you think?

Tie them up somehow - they need that foliage to make energy to store up for next year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Prop them up with a cane but careful not to push it through the crown.  :ohmy:

Thye need their leaves healthy to increase buds under the ground for next year

there's hardly any foliage on the said fronds though.do you think they might have gone to seed? :)

If they'd gone to seed, they'd have berries on them.

(Only the females do that by the way!)

then what happens?there are other fronds around the taller one.will it affect next seasons growth if i leave it. if so is it best to cut the one thats gone to seed off.help i'm starting to panic. :ohmy: :)

Just leave them - they know what to do!!!

Only cut them down when they're totally dead.

Don't panic, but do everything you can to preserve the fronds until they die down naturally; asparagus crowns take a long time to establish and need all the help they can get to help them develop well for future years.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
