Leggy white cabbage
« on: July 22, 2011, 23:17 »
I deliberately planted my white and red cabbage closer together than the recommended spacing, because I'm only feeding two people so I'd rather have several small cabbages than a few big cabbages. It's working well with the red cabbage and they're hearting up nicely. However, the white cabbage are not hearting up well and seem to be going rather leggy. Is this because they're close together or is it something else that's causing it? And why is it happening to the white cabbage but not the red (they are planted in the same bed)?

some varieties respond to closer spacing better than others, that's all ;)

Try to grow small varieties if that's all you want :)

On the plus side, you could take out alternate plants and eat these as loose leaf, and give the others more space - they might then heart up, especially if you feed them  :)

OK, I'll give that a go.
