hello there iam new to this site and plus gardening i have a a veg patch i have grown some runner beans but now they have flowered the are cover in black fly , what can i used 2 get rid of them pls help

Hiya

Had a similar problem with broad beans recently, from what I've read you could try and spray them with some slightly soapy water to get rid of them. Am new to all this too though so am sure someone with more experience will give you more advice :)

yes soapy water is fine
when im with my 9yr old she's the sensible one

A very fine spray of full cream milk will kill them in a couple of hours. Some people take the cream off the top and just use that, others don't bother.

never heard of that one before...I know some people use milk/water spray for mildew, but not on fly

I thought it was pretty unlikely too, but it came from Sparsholt so I reconed it was worth a go - and it worked, much to my surprise.

They did add that it was good for mildew too, haven't had to try this yet (though if this wet weather continues then it won't be long).

Now if only it worked for blight as well.....
