Thanks to Springlands I now know that Sweet Million F1 tomatoes are a cordon rather than a bush tomato!

As a result I have just spent 20 minutes with a pair of scissors turning my two SM plants into multi-stemmed cordons ( ::)), which despite having been allowed to do their own thing are now above the greenhouse eaves and absolutely covered in flowers and setting fruits!

Although the packet clearly states that they should be grown as cordons I think I copied my mistake over from the description I gave in the results table in the "home-grown tomato survey" thread  (nobody seemed to notice and hopefully no-one else used that as their growing instructions either!)  :nowink:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

That's obviously where I got my information from! (Can't remember that far back of course!)  ::)

Edit: Just noticed the "review" on the Marshalls page which advocated growing them pretty much as I have inadvertently done - looks like they are pretty unstoppable whatever you do with them!  :)

Provado Ultimate has a few different formulations, I believe only 1 of them is suitable for spraying on brassicas. The correct spray did no damage to mine :)

Did you check the label before spraying

A few years ago I stupidly balanced some chitted potatoes (2 varieties) in trays on the edge of my storage box just to knock them off and they were then all mixed up !!  and this year I have planted some broccoli and calabrese at either end of a bed (so they dont get mixed up of course) but I forgot to put their labels in now I cannot tell them apart
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

I got the sweet millions as plants from Marshall's and it does state that they are cordons - although the name also includes the word "bush". The growing instructions that came with the plants said to treat as a cordon. Anyway two of mine are definitely growing as cordons all by themselves but the third seems to have got bushy tendencies. All very confusing. But as long as I get lots of toms I am not going to worry too much.

Tomato Sweet Million x6 Plants (Bush)

Really easy-to-grow cherry tomato with an excellent fruit set so you are sure of a huge crop of bite-sized, extra sweet fruits.

They keep well over a long period can easily be grown on a sunny patio in planters or in the cold greenhouse

Tomato Sweet Million is a Cordon variety.

They're 'avin a larf ::)

It's an Indeterminate !

No wonder my plants cannot make up their minds which way to grow.

Just yesterday I vigorously weeded out 4 pea plants...

  I did something similar with some potato plants - one of the beds had got a bit overgrown so I pulled up the weeds to find little baby spuds dangling from the roots ...

I'll never forget last year when I put a crate of sweetcorn plants on top of a bag of compost in the wheelbarrow (too lazy to do 2 trips) and half way to the bed, the wheel caught on something and the crate shot forward and landed upside down.  Every plant was broken     I planted them a lot deeper than necessary hoping the soil would keep them upright and amazingly they all survived and went on to produce the best crop!
