I just store mine-onions & garlic & shallots in plastic trays that I get from the greengrocer.They are like mesh but they stack quite well. I also use them upside down on the plot to dry the onions on etc. I used to store the onions in old tights. That worked very well.Cut the legs off the tights, drop an onion down one of the legs, as far as it will go-they stretch a long way. Then tie a knot & add another one & so on till you reach the top.When it's full hang it up. When you want an onion just cut the bottom one off.
