Cabbage white caterpillars on broccoli...
« on: July 01, 2011, 11:54 »
Does anyone have any tips for making sure the few caterpillars we have found on the PSB spears, have gone before we steam them?

They all turned up while serving up yesterday, and looked awful - there must be a way of coaxing them out beforehand?

Drop the florets into salt water.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Marvellous!

Many thanks DD and MOS!

DD, I think they're the cut and come again variety (you helped out when I had a query earlier this year). They're producing nicely now, and I wonder how long they'll go on - especially if the darned caterpillars get seen to, which they will...

Ah - I'll pass on that. I only grow the spring harvesting variety.
