Gaps
« on: June 25, 2011, 21:19 »
Seem to have lots of gaps this year - nothing large enough to do anything with but the odd square foot here and there.

Other than leeks - what do you fill your gaps with?

If the slugs don't gobble them up   , oriental greens such as Pak choi, mizuna, mibuna etc. Can be used as salads or in stir fry. There's a nice guide here:

However, most (if not all) are part of the brassica family so if you have clubroot I imagine you need to be cautious.

Everything brassica needs to be covered round here otherwise its gone before you've finished planting it out. (flying rats).  :(

Although they are members of the brassica family, they don't look like what we typically think of as brassicas, but more like salads-that might fool the flying rats.

Interestingly rapeseed is part of the brassica family-the fields I can see out of my office window have certainly not been netted!

french beans - you can pop one or two plants in, and then there will be a handful of beans for tea a few weeks later.
