Turnips and Swedes splitting
« on: June 16, 2011, 18:13 »
Some of my Turnips and Swedes - and I have come across one larger new potato - are splitting.

I am thinking this is due to the drought we have had follwed by four days of medium to heavy rain and then sunshine putting too much growth on for the skins to keep up.

I hope some of my roots will be good for storing later but we are eating these as they appear as I don't thiink they will keep for long.

You can prep and freeze split vegetables to save them for soups and stews during the winter.
