hi, 1 off my 2 young girls has laid the biggest chickens egg i have ever seen, it is 2 inches wide by nearly 3 inches long, last week we did have another large egg that was a double, but this one is even bigger. they have been laying for about 4 weeks or so now, is this normal? to produce such a big egg or is it me just never seeing one so large.

Hi there its nothing to worry about your girls are young so are just getting the hang of laying, they should settle down soon, which breeeds do you have? a photo is mandatory of course

Largest we have had is 118 grams.  Must have been painful as it was huge.  Nothing you can do to stop them laying double yolkers.

I think we get too used to seeing eggs in supermarkets that are all a standard shape, size, colour and texture.  There is a huge natural variation in eggs, but we don't see them because they wouldn't fit easily in egg cartons and people would probably complain that they look untidy! 

I would love to see a photo of your egg before and after you crack it open.  I wonder if it could be a triple yolker?!
