Laying post-broodyness?
« on: May 24, 2011, 00:17 »
So one of our hens decided she might go broody (although she didnt seem particularly committed to the idea - sat in empty nest box rather than on eggs?!), but after much faffing have managed to persuade her theres more to life than sitting on eggs!

She's not started laying again yet though - how long might it take for her to come round?

Apparently the longer she's broody the longer it takes for her to re-start laying. Mine usually take around 5/6 weeks to start again.

Crikey!! Thanks Beano - she was broody for about a week, so......
Weve only had her 6 weeks! Thats a good holiday arrangement fo her eh?! 6 on, 6 off!!
Ill stop popping out expectantly for a little while then!

Buttercup is broody for the second time this year. She started laying in Feb. , was broody for most of March./Apr., layed a few eggs Apr./May and is broody again now.
Fortunately the others are much more reliable layers.

Mine are usually broody for about 6 weeks, they then "rest" for a couple of weeks before laying again.
