I am thinking turning me beds in to raised beds and I need more soil, would it be ok to buy top soil and add compost the reason,  for this I need a far amount of soil to raise the beds or am I asking for trouble.

You should be fine doing that as long as you buy a good quality top soil which has been screened and treated to minimise the weed seeds. You local reputable top soil supplier should know wht you are talking about.
