Pullet egg incubation period
« on: May 15, 2011, 19:08 »
I have taken delivery of some hatching eggs and I was amazed how small they were, I thought they must be bantie's but I think they are pullet eggs.  Will they still take 21 days to hatch or will it be sooner with them being so small?
I dog, 1 cat, 1 horse, 1 Light Sussex, 2 Speckledys, 2 Cuckoo Maran:)

Hi curries, not too sure about pullet eggs, our pullets lay different size eggs, but if they are hens eggs they will still take 21 days as far as I know.  Good luck

Hello Curries,
bantam eggs can also take 21 days or longer to hatch although some pure breed eggs will hatch earlier - around day 19 possibly.
11 bantams (and counting!) 2 dogs 1 cat

Usually it is still 21 days but last year I had them hatch at 19 and 20 days under a broody hen. It really isn't a great idea to hatch from pullets as the young generally tend to be smaller.
Staffies are softer than you think.

It wasn't my intention, I think I was conned on ebay as it wasn't mentioned in the listing that they would be pullet eggs, I thought they had sent me banty eggs when they arrived. ::)  It's the first time I have done this, but after reading all the forums I decided to give them a chance as the general opinion seemed to be that they would start off small but catch up later.  Fingers crossed anyway.
