just look at my runner beans two of the been seeds was on top of the grand but not Eton iv put them back in to the grand wot can be doing this.

It might have been blackbirds digging around for worms they dig up any thing in their path.

It will be birds for sure. If it was mice they would have been eaten.  Cover them with wire or netting until they have four leaves.
